Richard Spencer

Richard Spencer is the architect of the Kamylon Management System and leads portfolio management for the Firm as well as operational due diligence and post deal value improvement planning. Over the last 12 years, he and his team of Operating Partners have helped drive talent and performance improvement initiatives at Kamylon’s portfolio companies by implementing the Kamylon Management System.  Richard was also the CEO of the firm’s first investment, a pressure sensitive label printer. Richard has over thirty years of experience as a private equity investor, serial board member, general manager and consultant. He has led several businesses ranging from small service businesses to a $750 million division of a Fortune 500 company. 

Building on his 12 years of experience as senior private equity operating partner Richard recently founded HALitics, a digital transformation technology platform designed to meet the needs of private equity backed mid-market companies. HALitics leverages next gen data warehouse automation, Tableau visual analytics and a no-code rapid application development, process automation and machine learning environment to get big results fast in mid-market companies.

Prior to Kamylon, Richard was a Principal with The George Group, a consulting firm specializing in operations strategy, operational improvement (Lean Six Sigma), business simplification and accelerating the new product/service development process. He was a practice leader and contributor to the books Conquering Complexity in Your Business and Fast Innovation.

Prior to The George Group, Richard was a general manager with Capital One, where he led one of the firm’s most profitable credit card businesses. There he revamped the business unit’s strategy and marketing plans, implemented a series of critical infrastructure improvements, growing the top line by over 50%. He then went on to lead Capital One’s direct mail and outbound telemarketing operations supporting all US credit card businesses. There, his team drove lean process improvement initiatives cutting direct mail solicitation cycle time by 75% and orchestrated the execution of 1,000 solicitations annually delivering almost one billion mail pieces and 300 million telemarketing each year. 

Prior to Capital One, Richard spent 8 years as a consultant with McKinsey & Company where he specialized in designing and implementing broad-based performance improvement programs across a range of operationally intensive industries. At McKinsey, Richard co-led both the lean manufacturing and supply chain management practices and helped dozens of general managers in Fortune 1000 companies drive substantial top and bottom line performance improvement.

Richard began his career as a manufacturing engineer and management trainee at the Rover Group – the largest indigenous automaker in the United Kingdom — where he helped to implement lean production and rapid cycle product development before Japanese management techniques had gained notoriety in the West. 

Richard holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with First Class Honors from the Imperial College, University of London and an M.B.A from Harvard Business School where he graduated as a Baker Scholar.
