As the global economy begins to heat up, perhaps no other industrial sector is as volatile as the building materials sector. While lumber prices appear to be falling back to earth, steel and other critical construction inputs continue to rise in price.
A combination of port congestion, infrastructure legislation and labor challenges may mean inflationary pressures in the building materials industry may not be all that transitory.
Marc Iampieri and Joe Myers of AlixPartners stopped by on July 21st to provide the Industrial Exchange community with their outlook for the Building Materials sector for the latter half of 2021 and beyond.
We learned about:
- Demand for key building materials products
- Supply challenges
- Future outlook
- Case study from a recent engagement in the building materials sector.
